Supplies for Natural Heat AI
Heat Detection Patches, or tail paint will need to be applied to your cows and monitored twice a day, time is critical with AI so be observant!
Semen – your inseminator will need to have your chosen semen on hand ready for when your cow or heifer comes on heat.
While we aim to be available for Natural Service AI this is not guaranteed as we may have prior commitments. Therefore we ask you to keep note of heats in advance so we have a rough idea of when you are most likely to need us.
Fixed Time AI Supplies
Per cow you will need:
1 CIDR, 2 mls of Bomerol, 2 mls of PG (Estromil or Ovuprost) & 1 ml of GnRH (Gonabreed or Cattle-Mate).
Per heifer you will need
1 CIDR, 1 ml of Bomerol, 2 mls of (Estromil or Ovuprost) & 1 ml of GnRH (Gonabreed or Cattle-Mate).
Semen – You will need to have selected your semen prior to commencing your program to ensure it has arrived in time for the insemination.
* If you are EU accredited Bomerol cannot be used and can be substituted with Gonabreed. – Please let us know if you are EU Accredited before commencing a program.
Choosing an AI Sire....
Some things to consider when selecting your sire bull:
-What breed do you want?
-What do you want to improve in your herd?
-What are the main qualities you look for in your cattle?
-You can find up to date semen catalogues online, please have a look and get an idea of the sort of bull you would like to use.
-Semen can be sourced in Australia or from other countries, often the USA, please be aware shipping times can vary so be prepared!
-Do you want to use sexed semen? If so let us know before we begin a program.
